Elements of Style 2008A Sociable Benefit for the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes
Each year the Orchestra sponsors an event that features an architectural and/or historical home. You tour the house enjoying delicious Hors d’Oeuvre, music, and hospitality. It’s the first event of the Fall season. This year’s featured home combines mid-20th century architecture in the then-popular French Provincial style. The elegant interiors feature a combination of contemporary furniture and handsome antique pieces now in the third generation of the Dann family. The house was designed and built for the Cole family. Mrs. Cole was the sister of Ambassador Amory Houghton who, with his wife Laura Richardson Houghton, occupied the house from the 70s through the 90s. The Houghtons were hosts to many eminent personalities in government, business, and the arts. The house has been extensively updated, including a new kitchen and family living area, while much of the charm of the Houghton era has been retained throughout the house, particularly in the drawing and dining rooms. The cozy library is still the scene of many sparkling after-dinner conversations, much of which is now focused on playing pool. The terrace off the living room, with its wonderful views of the hills, is especially notable as are the gardens and pool area. And the gracious entry courtyard sets off the foyer leading to a long gallery and the rooms beyond. Tickets will be available this summer! |
