The Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes

The Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes celebrated its tenth anniversary season in 2006.

The Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes is one of America's outstanding professional symphony orchestras. Drawing talented musicians from throughout the region to perform five concerts in Elmira and Corning, NY, the Orchestra fills the bill as the premier symphony orchestra in New York's Southern Tier.

The Orchestra is the principal ensemble of Corning-Elmira Musical Arts, Inc (CEMA), an organization that comprises more than 150 musicians and music lovers and sustains the region's only youth ensembles, the Youth Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes and the Junior String Ensemble, as well as an outstanding community chorus, the Chorus of the Southern Finger Lakes.

The Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes, a fully professional regional orchestra of the Southern Tier, provides inspiring performances of all the major orchestral repertory. The OSFL is a gem of the Southern Tier.

History

The Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes was formed in 1996 when the Elmira Symphony and Choral Society was joined by the Corning Philharmonic. Both organizations enjoyed years of successful music performance for diverse and supportive audiences. Visionary leaders stepped forward with the belief that our region's communities deserve richer, more dynamic and vivid performances -- the kind that can only be offered by professional musicians working together under the direction of a superb conductor. A partnership was established.

Partnership remains a key element of the Orchestra's culture. Inspired orchestral performances emerge when musicians work together. New education programs and innovative concert programs are developed through partnerships with schools and cultural institutions. Partnerships with the community make low-cost tickets available for students and families. Cooperation, engagement, understanding, learning -- these are elements of great and enduring institutions.
