Youth Orchestra
Concerto Competition

We are very pleased to invite Youth Orchestra members to audition for
the Third Annual Concerto Competition.

Award and Eligibility

Two winners may be selected to perform one movement of a concerto with the Youth Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes on the Sunday, May 23rd Concert.  Any participating Youth Orchestra Member is eligible to audition.  The application deadline is Friday, October 23, 2009.

Auditions

Contestants will perform (from memory) one movement from a concerto on Saturday, November 7, 2009.  Auditions will begin at 9am.  For more information on this, please contact the office: (607) 936-2873.   The length of the movement should be 5 to 8 minutes; movements of longer duration must be cut.  Please consult the conductors or office when selecting your selection to make sure that we have the music available.  Auditions will be scheduled in 12-minute timeslots, which will be assigned in advance.  There will not be an accompanist provided to you but you may chose to provide your own.  We hope that the auditions will be very competitive so that we are able to highlight the best of our highly talented ensemble.  A maximum of two students will be selected to perform with the Youth Orchestra and the conductors may, at their discretion, decide not to select a winner or only one winner depending on quality and appropriateness of the pieces performed.  The decision of the conductors is final.

Auditions will be held Saturday, November 7, 2008 at Grace Church in Elmira. Specific audition times will be announced at a later date by email.
