Telling Stories with Music - Summer 2019
In partnership with public libraries, the OSFL's chamber groups are presenting educational programs at multiple locations this summer, free of charge thanks to support from the Upstate Coalition for a Fairgame Arts Grant.

The Frog Prince
One of the OSFL's chamber music ensembles, The Edgewood Piano Trio (violin, cello, and piano), presented an educational music program that will entertain and enlighten all ages--children and adults. The storybook theme was The Frog Prince with music by Michael Hopkins. The Trio also performed a Strauss waltz and other pieces to demonstrate different musical styles and allow the audience to move to the music, ask questions, and learn about the orchestra instruments up close. Audiences of all ages found inspiration in tying together music and literacy.

Musical by Nature
OSFL musicians partnered with the Tanglewood Nature Center in Elmira on Saturday, September 21, 2019. Participating students were inspired by the music of the natural world and created their own musical instruments from objects found in nature. The program ran from 10am to 12pm, immediately followed by a picnic lunch provided by OSFL and Tanglewood from 12pm-1pm. This family program was free and open to the public. More information at Tanglewood Nature Center's website.

STEM MAKES MUSIC
In collaboration with the Science & Discovery Center, OSFL musicians helped students build musical instruments from recycled materials and perform a musical composition that they created. The final performance was an exciting culmination of this week-long day camp.
