Add a Tune Improvisation Project
As part of the ARTS Connect: Summer Readiness Program, the OSFL created the "Add a Tune" Improvisation Project as a way to connect members of the community through music.
Phase 1
Dr. David Rudge (SUNY Fredonia) presented a virtual improvisation workshop to students of the Youth Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes and Junior String Ensemble on May 16, 2021. During this workshop, students explored "found sounds" with non-traditional and traditional instruments, solo improvisations, and group improvisations.
Junior String Ensemble conductor, Debrah Devine, hosted subsequent virtual mini workshops with community members and students to continue these explorations.

Phase 2
Students submitted their own improvisations to the OSFL which were compiled to create a single improvised composition.
Phase 3 - to be scheduled
Area music students and community members are welcome to join the students of the Youth Orchestra and Junior Strings for another improvisation workshop with Dr. David Rudge. Join our email list or follow us on social media for updates on this project!
The ARTS Connect Program is facilitated by The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes and funded by The Corning Foundation.
